As it stands, motherhood is a sort of wilderness through which each woman hacks her way, part martyr, part pioneer; a turn of events from which some women derive feelings of heroism, while others experience a sense of exile from the world they knew.

Every mother in whatever way she becomes a mother, feels gratitude, joy, wonder, loneliness, exhaustion and stress all mixed together, often times in the same five minutes. As Ricki Lake said “Motherhood is the greatest thing and the hardest thing.”
One of the driving forces behind why many of our students come to DEFINE to learn how to use their cameras, and what propels them forward to grow as photographers is the desire to capture the messy reality and beauty of their own family and their clients’ families. This Mother’s Day we salute them and we salute every woman because motherhood touches us all in some way.
